Happy Birthday, Virgo!
Well, Virgo, your birthday month this year is extremely active astrologically. There are two, count 'em two, new moons in Virgo this year. One's at the beginning of the solar month (August 23), and the other's at the end of the solar month (September 22). Both of them are just squeezed into your sign. The second one is also an eclipse.
Mars will also be in yoru sign until September 9. Mercury will be in Virgo from August 28 to September 12. Venus will enter your sign on September 7 and stay there throughout the month. You must be pretty important because that's a lot of Virgo energy! To top it off, there's a lunar eclipse in Pisces on September 7, which could also directly affect you. Wow!
Wow, of course, does not necessarily mean peaceful, as you may have figured out this year. There could be times during the middle of September when your opinions may clash with those of others. Regardless of what those others may think, though, they are your opinions, and you have a right to them. It is not for others to try to control what you think, do, or feel. True accommodation in relationship can only be reached if the parties can speak their minds frankly. This month, it's likely to be your turn to step up to the plate and do some of the frank speaking.
It's not necessarily that you have to be right (an important point to remember)--it's more that people close to you need to know where you stand. In a way, that's one of the major things being grown up in a relationship entails, letting other people know what you're all about.
On a broader level, the Virgo purpose over the next several years is to make intimate connections, or to make existing connections more intimate, with the help of Uranus in Pisces and this series of eclipses that wraps up in early 2008. All of your close personal relationships are under a glaring spotlight through the year 2010.
This is significant because what the universe is going for here is in some ways what the sign of Virgo is all about. Virgo, being ruled by Mercury, is one of those signs that usually needs a certain distance from others to function properly. Contact that is too close chafes, binds, restricts, and gets annoying or abrasive to Virgo sensibilities. The universe is making a prolonged effort to address this situation and to allow you to unite with others without the sensation of constriction or having your last nerves scraped upon. This is not an easy task, for your sign is very sensitive, but it is worthwhile. The universe is therefore asking Virgos to display the courage to endure disharmony and even vulnerability by revealing more of their inner workings to others. In other words, letting people know what you really think and feel.
To this end, the universe may contrive to have you meet someone and fall in love during the next two years, get married, or otherwise make a tangible commitment. It may ask you to deepen or re-commit to existing relationships. First, though, you have to know yourself, and have enough independence to be yourself and express yourself truthfully. So that's your task this month, Virgo, working on the independence end of things.
If you do the work and all goes well (I'm hoping it does), by next March you could well be ready for a more intimate and heavenly connection than you can even currently imagine.

There is a possibility, thanks to eclipses in Pisces and Virgo, that there will be structural changes in your workplace beyond your control this month or next. (For some of you, such changes may have already occurred). I'm talking about things like changes to management structure, ownership, or comings and goings of key employees or bosses.
There can be a natural tendency during a time of shifting political landscapes at work (such as the ones you are likely to encounter) to switch loyalties in an attempt to adapt. I'm going to cautiously suggest that this is probably not a wise strategy for you, Aries. The landscape could shift continuously or repeatedly over the next couple of months. If you bet on the wrong horse early in the game, you may find yourself out in the cold. It's probably better to stay loyal to the people you really like, even if they seem on the outs in a new structure--or you may find that new friends are really hidden enemies. It's not guaranteed that this will happen, but with an eclipse in your solar 12th house, it could. Things should be easier to assess or re-assess in November, when everything should be somewhat settled down. For now, though, I'm thinking it would be best not to burn any bridges or act too hastily.

This is likely to be a changeable month, Taurus, with lots going on. You could lose a friend and gain a lover. In fact, it wouldn't be a terrible month to investigate your possibilities for new love or for renewed and heightened sexual intimacy with your current one. All the planetary activity, however, may make you feel a bit unsettled. Try to keep an open mind about things as best you can. Take the attitude, if possible, that you are just going to be curious to see what the month will bring (particularly around September 7 and 22 when eclipses occur), without making any firm judgments about events. In a couple of months, you can decide if your new lover or new shifts in your relationships are right for you. For now, though, just remain open to the possibilities.

Gemini, there's a lunar eclipse in your solar 10th house on September 7. A solar eclipse in your solar 4th house takes place on September 22. The latter could signal a sweet new beginning in home or family life, although not all Geminis will be affected. It's the lunar eclipse that's a bit more likely to require your attention.
The lunar eclipse focuses on your creer or public status and it is all about emotions. The sign affected, Pisces, is the most emotional sign in the zodiac, and you may feel a bit queasy as things unfold. Sit tight if you can. All you have to do for the next couple of months is notice what people around you are feeling and validate their reactions, even if you don't agree. (Well, actually I'm sure that's not all you have to do, but it would probably help a lot). Conscientiously dishing out the validation can help you navigate through shifting waters. If you try to take abrupt action on your own, you are likely to find you don't have enough information to make a rational decision, and you could get off course. So try to find out what everyone else is feeling before you make a move. You could call it playing politics, or you could call it self-preservation--either way, it's the prudent thing to do.

The other signs may be heavily impacted by eclipses this month, but you are less likely to be because they fall in your relatively mild solar 3rd and 9th houses. Once again, you're getting something of a free pass from the universe compared to other signs. If I were you, I'd concentrate on romantic or creative endeavors. August 27th and 29th could be good days for both. In September, the sun, Mercury, and Venus will be in good angle to Jupiter in your solar 5th house of romance, creativity, and children. You could take advantage by gently pushing along your aims in these areas. The truth is, though, that this is another month when you can do what you darn well please.

LIBRA: SEPTEMBER 23 - OCTOBER 22
Thanks to an eclipse in Pisces, changes may be afoot in your job situation. The eclipse, on September 7, happens to concide with the entry of entry of Mars into your own sign. You may feel uncharacteristically uncooperative at this time. Try, if possible, not to let this mood dominate your actions. Even if the situation at work does appear adverse, it may be salvaged by remembering to work with others for a mutually favorable outcome. If will probably be easier to assess in a couple of months whether the workk-related changes are to your ultimate benefit. In the meantime, just hang in there and try to keep a clear head.

SCORPIO: OCTOBER 23 - NOVEMBER 21
Your situation this month is the opposite of the one confronting your Taurean brothers and sisters in that you may gain a friend and lose a lover. Try, if at all possible, not to get overly worked up about this. Silly advice, I know, but the thing is that Jupiter in your own sign has been subtly encouraging you to be more expansive, but also less emotionally self-disciplined than usual. This month, however, you probably need to sit tight and not jump to any hasty conclusions about your love life or other matters. Things in your love life, for example, could pick up again soon, and your new friends, if they appear, may not be as long-lasting as you'd like to think. Keep a sensible Scorpio head on your shoulders and just wait to see how things play out.

SAGITTARIUS: NOVEMBER 22 - DECEMBER 21
This month there are potentially impactful eclipses in Pisces and Virgo to muddy to the waters of your life. The one in Pisces, on September 7, which affects your home and family life, is potentially the more problematic of the two. If things develop in that area that catch you off guard, you'll need to rely on your excellent Sagittarian intution to sort them out. You can do this, and things may turn out quite well. There's also the possibility of good news on the career front by the end of the month.

Capricorn, there's a lunar eclipse in Pisces in your solar third house of communication on September 7 that may require you to exercise some self-control. Normally, you are good at this, but erratic Uranus in that sign has made things a bit more jumpy than usual for Capricorns. Pisces is an emotional sign, and lunar eclipses are said to be emotional in content as well. There's nothing wrong with emotion per se, but you may have an uncharacteristic urge to rock the boat at a time when it is already unstable. That would be fine for some signs, but it is likely to make yours feel nervously sea-sick. If unexpected emotions do arise this month, tell yourself 'this is only a feeling,' and try to let it pass through you until your Capricorn sun can figure out what to do in its normally restrained and sensible manner.

Aquarius, you may need your famed objectivity this month as eclipses rock your money houses. I'll put it bluntly--the universe may try to reduce your income this month, and that rarely puts anyone in a good mood. This type of occurrence if it arises, however, can work to your financial benefit in the long run. For that to happen, you'll need to focus objectively on the big picture. What is it exactly that you want to accomplish financially--what do you want to attain in this area? See if you can spot an opportunity in this month's activity for you to train your efforts in the direction you really want to go, and the universe just may help you out over the next few months.

PISCES: FEBRUARY 19 - MARCH 20
Pisces, there's a lunar eclipse in your sign on September 7. No telling what it may bring. Sometimes these things bring sad losses, and sometimes they bring great joy. Sometimes they bring both--or neither. You do not need to decide this month whether to be happy or sad--you just need to let things unfold. There's a fifty-fifty chance that those of you who are looking for a new relationship will stumble across an interesting prospect before the month is through, so you just need to play the wait and see game before you pass judgment on this period of time.

VIRGO
Virgo is a mutable earth sign. Planetary ruler: Mercury. Season: Summer. Associated with the 6th house of work and service. Its symbol is the Virgin.
Virgo is a curious mixture, an earth sign ruled by airy Mercury. The combination of Mercury's precision focus and the sign's earth orientation make Virgo all about real life. Not about theoretical life, imaginary life, dream life, or anything else. No, Virgo is about this life, this reality as it is happening right now. (Virgo is also a mutable sign, with a now focus.) Virgo can be interested in things as diverse as what to eat for breakfast, whether or not your grammar is correct, and the purity of your heart. But it is not interested in excuses, lies, or bullshit. It only cares about what is provably real, and it worries about those real things constantly.
I once knew a Virgo who became fixated on my toaster on the theory that it was soon to ignite in flames. It didn't, but it could have, and Virgo was apalled that I was blithely making toast with insufficient attention to the details that govern potential toast-burning. If my toast gets burned, I toss it out, and if my toaster was to catch fire, I'd put out the flames. Neither of these things is appealing to Virgo, a sign that feels that even minor disasters should be averted by hawk-eyed attention to the finer nuances of proper toast-making--or proper anything else.
When Virgo is emphasized by transiting or natal planets, be prepared for hawk-eyed attention and a heavy dose of worrying. Like many people alive today, I have Pluto in Virgo in my birth chart. It happens to be in my 6th house. This combination makes me a lifelong paranoid worrier about all matters related to work. Sometimes this is excruciatingly visible to others; sometimes I suffer alone. A lot of you have Pluto in Virgo, too, and even more have other planets in this sign. You will more than likely have to put up with your own worrying in matters related to the affected houses.
On the upside, you are likely to be competent in these matters, as Virgo loves competence. When transiting planets visit Virgo, as they do this month, it behooves us all to be competent or to expect the universe to remind us that we need to be. For real life, is important, and, as Virgo reminds us, we neglect it at our peril.

HOW TO USE KEYWORDS: The essence of learning astrology is understanding how to mix, match, and blend the concepts associated with signs, planets, and houses to figure out what is or will be affecting you at a given point in time. This takes practice and practice is exactly what you're going to have a chance to get if you use the keywords each month.
Keywords can be used to plan and take action using the month's energies, to explain events or to make predictions. Scan for keywords that seem relevant to situations in your own life. You'll have 3 sets of keywords you can blend, one for the planet discussed, one for the sign it's in and one for the solar house it's transiting. Pick the keywords that interest you most and create your customized horoscope!
For example, if the Sun is in Aries in your solar first house, if you want to plan or take action you might pick the Sun keyword 'power', the Aries keyword 'initiating', and the 1st house keyword 'self-expression' to create an intention for yourself that you have the power to initiate actions to express yourself more fully in ways that you desire. You'll know what 'self-expression' means to you. It works best if you pick keywords that 'speak' to you or that coincide with elements of your life that already concern you. To receive astrological benefits, it's not necessary that you obligate yourself to do something huge - it's only necessary that you take one step in the right direction at the right time. Astrology concerns itself with when things are born, and if you start something at the right time, you're riding on the energy that's already available to you in the universe.
You can also use the keywords to try to figure out if something that is affecting you is 'in the stars'. For example, let's say you find yourself wondering why you're getting drawn into conflicts with people at your church. You scan the keywords and realize 'Aha! The fiery energy of Aries is currently being activated in my 12th house of faith-related matters!' If the energy is uncomfortable, you'll have a gauge as to how long it will be prominent (oh good, it should ease up next month!) or if it's a good energy you'll know which planet to thank!
You can also try your hand at predicting. If you check in at the beginning of the month and notice that your house of friendships is highlighted along with some active planetary or sign energies, you might predict for yourself that you will be engaging in a lot more fun and restorative activities with your friends in the coming month. This is basically what professional astrologers do and now you have a chance to try your own hand at it and compare your results with the pros. Have fun!
NOTE: There are a wide variety of potential keywords associated with each sign, planet, and house. I pick different ones each month to give you an idea of the range from the most common concepts to much more subtle ones. Over time, you'll gain an intuitive sense of what kinds of concepts are associated with each element and you'll even be able to generate your own keywords as you get a feel for each of the signs, planets, and houses. Each keyword also inherently contains its opposite as well. For example, if the keyword 'divorce' is displayed, it doesn't mean you'll get a divorce. But it does mean that if that is a concern for you and something you want to avoid you have an opportunity, while that energy is activated, to take proactive steps to deal with potential problems or head off an undesirable outcome. So you can turn 'divorce' into 'keeping a marriage together' or 'illness' into 'taking steps to get and stay healthy'.
Use your rising sign for better forecasts! Most published horoscopes are based at least in part on transits to solar houses. Solar houses are based on your sun sign and are easy to calculate. Your sun sign is your solar 1st house, the next sign in the zodiac is your solar 2nd house and so on. You can always determine what solar house a planet is in if you know the sign. Simply start with your own sign and count around the zodiac until you reach the sign you're interested in. For example, if you're a Gemini, the sign of your solar 3rd house is Leo. Pisces is the sign of your solar 10th house. Astrologers who publish horoscopes use sun signs and solar houses for several reasons: a) almost everyone knows their birthday; b) they're easy to calculate; and c) they actually do have some effect. However, if you get a personal reading from a professional astrologer, he or she will almost always use transits to your natal houses to give you a reading instead. Natal houses are based on your rising sign, which is determined by the exact time, place, and day you were born. Transits to your natal planets and houses have at least as much effect on your life as transits to your solar houses, sometimes quite a bit more. If you really want to know your chart, and get better horoscopes, you should find out your rising sign (also called Ascendant). If you know the exact time and place of your birth, you can do this for free at a wonderful website - www.astro.com. Click on the link near the top that says 'Free Horoscopes'. On that page, scroll down to the link that says 'Chart Drawing, Ascendant'. Follow the prompts to enter the information concerning your birth time, date, and place. You'll get a chart that shows your Ascendant (the sign next to the designation 'AC'). To the left will be a box listing your planetary placements. Next to the listing for 'AC' your rising sign will be listed along with the degree of your Ascendant within that sign. Make a note of that sign and be sure to check the horoscope and keywords for your Ascendant as well as your sun sign!
TRACK YOUR RESULTS! Next month when you come back here for your next horoscope, take 30 seconds to assess the results of the action you took last month as a result of your horoscope. Did it make you feel better? Did it make your life any better? Did it give you renewed energy or did you find your effort blocked, delayed, or ineffective? Judging your results allows you to assess how responsive you are to a particular planetary, sign, or house energy. For example, some people are very responsive to the astrological Sun just the way some people are very responsive to a sunny day. Other people work better with the energy of other planets. Only by taking a moment to gauge your results can you learn which planets work best for you in your life. You may have an 'afflicted' natal Sun that never does much for you, but a raring-to-go Mars that will help you in a pinch every time. Checking your results each month will give you an increasingly accurate guide as to how to use astrology to enhance your life.
