SPECIAL HOROSCOPE FOR SCORPIO: OCTOBER 23 - NOVEMBER 21
Happy Birthday, Scorpio!

What a birthday month this is for you, Scorpio! No fewer than five planets visit your sign during this solar month. That's a lot. There haven't been five planets in Scorpio at once since...well, years ago. This crowd of planets in your sign (the Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars, and Jupiter, plus a new moon) makes your keyword for the month action.

So let me start by being one of the first to say that I hope the past year has brought the fulfillment of at least one major life wish for you. Whether that wish was for a new love, a new home, career achievement, peace of mind, or something else, Jupiter has been doing its level best for the past year to make at least one dream come true. If that hasn't happened, this month represents a final chance for you to make a gigantic push towards your goals. Go for it.

If you're already pretty content with things on the major life goals front, there are still other things you can do with this abundance of planetary energy. You could do something to express what you feel to be your most unique and distinguishing qualities (the first house is partly about distinguishing yourself from the crowd). If that's too vague, you could invest in a makeover, haircut, clothes-buying spree or other appearance-related upgrade (Venus in your sign). You could zip about being social and meeting people, sharing your Scorpio-ness with a receptive world. You could work your butt off to score a career or other important victory (Mars in your sign). You could draw up a list of your most important goals and attack at least one with extreme vigor. You could prioritize everything on your to-do list and then get everything on it done. In other words, the planets are trying to give you all the advantages they can this month, so work every angle you can think of. If you want to make a birthday wish as well, your new moon is on the 20th. Meanwhile, on Thanksgiving in the US, Jupiter will leave your sign for Sagittarius, and at that point the planets will shift focus towards your income level (as in increasing it.) All in all, a damn good birthday month.

Now it's time to talk a little bit about the Scorpio purpose, as we usually do during a sign's birthday month. I'm going to start by arguing with something I heard recently about Scorpios--that they're cold-blooded. Obviously, this is the kind of sweeping statement that doesn't hold up to scrutiny. Particularly when we consider that many Scorpio sun sign people have a lot of Sagittarian influence. What I think this person was responding to, in their inaccurate way, was something important, though. That important thing is the Scorpio association with truth.

You can tell how human beings feel about truth by contrasting the phrases "warm fuzzies" and "cold, hard reality." Much of humanity seems to think that reality is the cold and hard-hearted enemy of their emotions and ideals. To which the sign of Scorpio says "tough luck." Scorpio's purpose is to understand that reality is the single most powerful thing in the universe. Which is why your sign is associated with Pluto, the single most powerful body in the astrological line-up. Reality always wins. It often wins slowly (like your slow-moving ruler Pluto), but it always wins. The truth always trumps.

The Scorpio purpose is to align itself with reality. Specifically, Scorpio people are to confront and be aware of their own personal realities on a deep level. Whether that means their personal motivations or their personal situations or their personal histories or their personal goals, Scorpio needs to be truthful even when other signs are bitching and moaning about reality interfering with their warm fuzzies. The Scorpio purpose doesn't necessarily involve going around town like a traveling salesman explaining the truth to everyone else; it is enough for Scorpios to simply live in the truth about themselves and others whether anyone else cares to understand or not. This is a pretty important purpose these days because two of the other "cold" truth-seeking signs (Aquarius and Virgo) are being roiled about by Neptune and Uranus respectively. Someone needs to be in contact with reality these days!

If you care to aim your own Scorpio truth-seeking missile these days, an excellent place to start would be in matters relating to your career and standing in the community. You have an opportunity, while Saturn is still in Leo, to get intensely real about exactly what it is you want to accomplish in this world in a concrete and tangible way. What exactly do you want and why do you want it? Examine the emotional motivations that drive you to achieve success (or avoid it). Are they still applicable? If they are, is there a way that you can get extremely objective about these motivations and how to fulfill them? When Jupiter enters Sagittarius, you will have a chance to tie income and achievement together. Know your own truth on these matters, and live it (whether anyone else thinks it's "cold-blooded" or not), and there will be no stopping you.

ARIES: MARCH 21 - APRIL 19

There is just no avoiding the sign of Scorpio this month, as five planets will visit that sign this month. That means an awful lot of emphasis on your solar 8th house of healing. There are a number of different things you can do to take advantage of all this energy.

One thing you can do is focus on your physical and psychological health. If you need to deal with doctors, get things checked out, or solve an annoying physical or emotional condition, this is the single best month of the year to do it. You can make real progress if you start now. Headaches, ulcers, back pains, high blood pressure--whatever. Just deal with it. If you have seemingly psychological problems (like anxiety, depression, or stress) that have a physical component, the same thing applies. You can take real steps to conquer these things this month. The key is using the Scorpio energy to figure out (or have a professional figure out), what's really going on. You can get to the root of things this month and really solve your issues, or at least begin to.

If all is hunky-dory on that front, you can use the same energy to heal financial problems, particularly joint financial matters. Get to the bottom of your situation, if you have a financial situation to get to the bottom of. Similarly, you can deal with issues in a close sexual relationship and heal them, if there are any to heal. Finally, if you are convinced that absolutely nothing in your life needs healing--you can also burn up some of this Scorpio energy by engaging in some good old-fashioned sexual passion with the appropriate partner of your choice. You could call that sexual healing if you want.

By the way, there's a reason for all this planetary focus on healing this month. Next month, the planets plan to expend even more energy on getting you to contemplate big, optimistic plans for the future and how to implement them. They seem to feel that will be a lot more productive for you if you clear the decks of any nagging issues this month. Makes sense to me.

TAURUS: APRIL 21 - MAY 20

Ah Taurus, you haven't seen a month like this in a long time. The whole darn heavens seem to have slid into your solar 7th house like a bunch of kids on one end of a see-saw. All the inner planets, including Mars, visit Scorpio this month, and Jupiter's there too. In other words, there's a tremendous emphasis on relationships this month. So let's break this down.

If you're a single Taurean and looking--look like a maniac this month. With planets in Scorpio in good angle to Uranus in Pisces, your best bets seem to occur through friends or social activities. Allow your friends to set you up. Go to parties where there will be a lot of people. Get out and about any place where there will quantities of people. This is an opportunity not to be missed, so don't miss it.

If you're a Taurean who has recently entered into a relationship (due to previous planetary vibes), this is the month when most of the planets are considering whether to make the new relationship exclusive and committed. They already know the answer they prefer (yes!), but Mercury (retrograde) and Mars want to make sure. In consequence, there may be some negotiations with your new honey (as there frequently are in a new relationship). There may be some arguments as well (again, not uncommon in the early stages of a relationship). The reason for the negotiations and arguments is so that you can get to know your new partner better and so that both of you can understand where things really stand. Arguing and negotiating is not a planetary signal to bail--it's a planetary signal to hang in there and work things out, and pre-solve any dilemmas that could otherwise cause problems later. The planets are not in the mood for problems later (they want you to be happy and fulfilled!) so they are working to get things figured out now. Figure them out and if any arguments do arise, hash things out and then celebrate with make-up sex.

If you're a Taurean already in a committed, exclusive relationship, this is the month to address and solve any issues there. Although Mars in the 7th house can lead to stomach-churning conflict on occasion, all the planets are on your side for a happy resolution. Their goal is to bring any relevant truths to light this month so that you can embark next month on a journey of deeper emotional (and sexual) fulfillment that will express itself as a happy and optimistic attitude toward life in general. You want to scoop up the impending planetary rewards, so all you need to do this month is just be okay with the truth (yours and your partner's) whatever it turns out to be.

By the way, business partnership issues can be addressed with this energy as well. If you're negotiating an agreement or deal, same thing. You can also settle a dispute with this energy, including a business dispute or a dispute with anyone you've hired. This energy is about getting to the bottom of things so that old stuff can be wrapped up and new stuff can flourish later. So there you have it--lots of opportunities!

GEMINI: MAY 21 - JUNE 20

Gemini, the planets have been buzzing like bees around the sectors that govern your working life. First there was an eclipse in your solar 10th house of career, and now half the damn planets in the sky have decided to crowd into your solar 6th house of work, like people jamming themselves into an overstuffed elevator. So...

This is your best opportunity in years (literally years) to address work stuff. Need to be very aware of efficiency, your routine, and how you get things done to cope with increased demands? Well, this the month to think that through and consciously make a plan for handling your work. Have work-related wishes for better assignments, more money, better working conditions? Wish away during the new moon period on November 20. Problems with employees? Use Mercury retrograde to think them through and negotiate solutions throughout the month. Co-workers bugging you? Make peace with Venus' help during the first three weeks of November. Have ambitions or an overload of stuff to do? Power through things and reach your goals with the help of Mars. In other words, whatever you need to get done on the job--you can get it done.

Meanwhile, Jupiter in this sector, besides making you potentially busy, is also great for cramming in doctor's appointments and health-related improvement stuff before the holiday season begins. Use up your deductibles or any money in one of the those employer-based health savings accounts. It's a busy month, Gemini, but it's potentially all good. Besides, there's a planetary treat awaiting you. Get your work done this month, and you can indulge in an abundant romantic and relationship energy next month!

CANCER: JUNE 21 - AUGUST 22

Cancer, there's just an unusual amount of planetary hubbub in your solar 5th house this month. I'd call it a traffic jam, in fact, but none of the planets seem that grumpy about it and I'm hoping you won't be either, because it can all work out well for you.

First off, if you want to conceive a child, this is the month to go for it. In fact, it's a great month to ignore the general rules of biology and just make attempts throughout the month on the theory that it couldn't hurt and who knows, it might help. The sign of Scorpio (which is where all the inner planets and Jupiter have gathered) is a pretty darn sexy sign, and the 5th house is the sector that governs having kids. Put them together and anything can happen. By the way, if you don't want to conceive a child, take precautions!!

If you already have children, this is also a great month to spend time with them, bond with them, help them out, enjoy them, make wishes for them (particularly during the new moon period on the 20th of November) and/or address any problems.

Meanwhile, for those of you who don't have or are not ready for kids, there is an abundance of great energy for your love life, for romance, for happy fun, and all that stuff. Dedicate yourself to pleasure this month if at all possible. Really. The planets aren't going to be telling you that again for a long, long time so do not miss out on what amounts to a going-away party for Jupiter in Scorpio. Believe me, you'll regret it more later if you don't party with the planets now than if you don't get your work-related spreadsheets done. Nobody ever dies saying "I wish I'd done more spreadsheets." So celebrate life now, while the celebrating's good.

LEO: JULY 23 - AUGUST 22

So Leo, this month all the inner planets are throwing a big going-away bash for Jupiter in Scorpio, and it looks as though they're planning to hold it at your house. Literally 5 planets will be crowding into your solar 4th house, the one that governs all home-related matters. It's possible this could translate into an over-hectic schedule of visitors, home improvements, family members to deal with, and general too muchness in the sphere of your domestic life. Or it could translate into an actual party at your house--which is not a bad way to use the energy.

If you're not planning to allow the world to come tromping up to your door this month, you can use the energy to get stuff taken care of and problems solved. You could do some re-decorating, scout out possibilities for moving if necessary, get stuff repaired, get stuff cleaned or otherwise handle anything that needs to be handled around the house. You could also, being a Leo, find that at some point during a rather hectic month of planets challenging your sun, it feels necessary to just start yelling at the people you live with. As long you don't go overboard with letting off steam this way, it's probably better to just let any frustrations out than to try to bottle them in.

Next month, things actually improve in many ways, because the party moves to your 5th house of fun and kids and love life. There the planets will stop trying to impose upon your sun's good nature, and they'll be in a festive Sagittarian mood. They'll also be getting along with Neptune in your relationship house and that bodes well too. So just hang in there this month and get the home stuff dealt with, and you'll be able to look forward to a great holiday season.

One final random note--if you do home repair or improvement stuff this month--try not to spend too much money on it. Unexpected expenses (Uranus in Pisces in your solar 8th house) could materialize if you don't budget carefully. Just so you know.

VIRGO: AUGUST 23 - SEPTEMBER 22

I've probably said this far too often in 2006, but this is a significant year for you astrologically. For some of you it's significant in a happy way (you're getting married!) and for some of you in a difficult way (you're contemplating divorce). Others are just trying to figure out how to make some major life changes in other areas. Whatever your situation, the inner planets this month (all of whom are buzzing about your solar 3rd house at some point) desperately want you to vent and process. They need you to vent and process this month because during the holiday season that starts with Thanksgiving in the US, they are planning to invite everyone in the entire world to drop by your house. They like to do that every year anyway, but this year they are planning to get totally out of control and dump almost the entire contents of the heavens into your solar 4th house of stuff in your home. If you don't vent and process away your tensions this month, you could find that next month is just too much to deal with. So don't let that happen--vent and process, and reason your toward some mental clarity.

You can do that by diligently analyzing and handling any minor but distracting problems of daily life. You could do that by vigorously completing everything on your to-do list so that nothing hangs over into the holiday period. You could do that by reading interesting and relevant material or by talking and venting and processing with friends, neighbors, and receptive family members. Your sign just feels so much better when it is mentally clear, so don't ignore your needs for clarity and organization this month, and the holiday season could turn out to be a lot of fun. After all, you do kind of like having people over during the holiday season, don't you?

LIBRA: SEPTEMBER 23 - OCTOBER 22

Libra, this solar month is something of a portal between one phase of your life and another. One major thing on the planetary to-do list for the past year has been to get your income (earned income, not from investments) to increase. The skies are just bound and determined to get that issue wrapped up this month. As a consequence, they have thrown 5 inner planets at your income sector and tossed in a new moon on November 20 to boot. They are on a serious hunt for money this month. They are desperate to get this taken care of so they can inaugurate a new era of emphasis on your mental life next month when Jupiter enters Sagittarius and your solar 3rd house. They are very much looking forward to that, and they don't want nagging money issues to bog them down.

So...make conscious efforts to nail down that raise or that job or that source of income. Figure out if there's stuff you need to buy and figure out where you're going to get the money to pay for it. Hold a garage sale or do the modern equivalent by hosting an auction on eBay so that you don't have baggage from unnecessary possessions weighing down your new cycle. Dose yourself with affirmations relating to material gain. Rationally determine how you can minimize expenses and losses. Get everything money-related cleared up and ship-shape as best you possibly can and the planets will reward you with abundant feelings of security and self-confidence. That's the plan anway, and I for one am hoping it works.

SAGITTARIUS: NOVEMBER 22 - DECEMBER 21

This month the planets are buzzing about an upcoming fresh start for the sign of Sagittarius. In anticipation of the big moment (which officially gets underway right around Thanksgiving), the inner planets and Jupiter have congregated in your solar 12th house to make their plans. One potential effect of this is some wild and crazy dreams at night (the 12th house activates dreams). Feel free to record and ponder them.

The reason behind all the subconscious activity (the 12th house also rules the subconscious) is that Jupiter will enter Sagittarius (on Thanksgiving) and he's planning to bring all his buddies along with him during the holiday season. That means you'll be getting a fresh start like nobody's business. Jupiter hasn't been in Sagittarius for approximately 12 years, so this isn't your average everday fresh start. The planets are pretty excited, and you can be too. Post a sticky on your computer that says "Fresh Start!!!" to prompt your subconscious to think of all the most delicious ways it could turn a fresh start to your benefit.

While your subconscious is pondering and bouncing about excitedly, all you really need to do is keep quiet so it can do its work. The 12th house is a quiet, withdrawn house. This is not the month to offend your mother-in-law, start a fight with your boss, save the world, initiate a great new plan, or do any number of other things it might otherwise be fun to do. Your subconscious needs its space and peace to visualize your future. It needs you to be quiet so it can hear its own intuitions. So be quiet, tactful, reserved, and polite for a month. And then burst into your glorious new start any time from Thanksgiving on.

CAPRICORN: DECEMBER 22 - JANUARY 19

Hi Capricorn! This solar month, with its heavy emphasis on the sign of Scorpio (all the inner planets and Jupiter will visit Scorpio this month), is different from all the other months of the year. We haven't really seen a month with so many planets in one sign for quite some time. The net result for you, I think, is a whole bunch of reasons to get excited about life.

Scorpio rules your solar 11th house of life direction. When a crowd of planets visits it at once it is sort of like they are saying it's time to get jazzed about your potential future. It's a house where the planets stretch their limbs restlessly and start thinking about what fun and exciting things they can do next in your life. This is actually part of a three-step process. First, they need to generate some happy ideas about your future. Then, they need to go underground to your solar 12th house and meditate on how to enact them. Then, during your birthday month, they need to start actually taking action. In other words, this is the month to dream and generate ideas.

The other meaning of this house has to do with socializing, attending events, and being with friends. Mingling this month is a great way to spark the planets with ideas for your life direction. Contact with others excites their energies and brings insights to the fore. It's also a pretty darn good way to relax and have fun. So why not do just that--relax and have fun with others while remaining open to reasons to get excited about your future. Doesn't sound like too bad a way to spend the month to me.

AQUARIUS: JANUARY 20 - FEBRUARY 18

This month all the inner planets and Jupiter too will be spending time in Scorpio in your solar 10th house of career and public visibility. All of these planets except Jupiter will make an exact trine with your ruler Uranus (in Pisces) at some point during the month. What this means is that there is a connection this month between your willingness to work for visibility and status and your finances (Pisces is the sign on your solar house of finances).

There are a number of levels to this connection. At the deepest level, both of these signs relate to unconscious forces. Just about everybody in the world has unconscious or subconscious stuff that affects how they handle money. Your personal subconscious stuff happens to be particularly important to the skies these days because your ruling planet is really trying hard to roil that stuff around so that you can deal with it. Uranus has been trying to toss your money situation around like a little tiny boat on some stormy seas. The net effect of this is that Uranus is trying, in fits and starts, to get you to be a hero, a mensch, a stalwart captain, a fearless leader, or something similar when it comes to how you handle money. Slay your unconscious dragons, tame your demons, deal with your subconscious stuff--that's the general tenor of Uranus' message. Step up to the plate, in other words.

On another level, this isn't just about subconscious emotions and whatnot, it's about action. This month the planets are saying you need to take action in your career or other matters that affect your public standing. This may take courage, because the sign of Aquarius is actually quite ambivalent about all that stuff. The sign is happy to do the work, and a bit freaked out about sharing the results of that work so that everyone else can see them. The sign lacks a natural ego, and so has to rationalize visibility as a form of humanitarian public service. However you want to rationalize things, this month is the month to face your career and visibility issues and just deal. Seek fame, go for a promotion, apply for an award, nominate yourself for an honor (or get someone else to), jump on professional opportunities, demand recognition, or whatever else is appropriate for your situation.

The third level, and the bottom line, is that seeking appropriate recognition is a necessary part of your life purpose. In a way, that's what this energy is all about. You need income and you need recognition to get done what your Aquarian sun sign needs to get done for the world. You see, next month, 6 planets (6!) will visit Sagittarius and your solar 11th house of life purpose. Thanksgiving in the US marks the beginning of a whole new cycle for you. The planets really need you to acknowledge that recognition leads to money and money leads to purpose so that you can start your new cycle with full understanding of your next steps to the future. So put yourself out there this month, and the planets will take it from there.

PISCES: FEBRUARY 19 - MARCH 20

The astrological theme of 2006 for the sign of Pisces has been "something new" thanks to Uranus and eclipses in your sign. For a lot of you, what the skies really want for you is a new relationship, or a new lease on life for an old relationship. For some you, the planets may have been working to dump an old relationship if they felt it just wasn't good enough.

Whether you've embarked on a new relationship this year or not (for some of you it will happen next year), this is the month to boldly contemplate the entire "something new" theme. The majority of planets this month are in Scorpio in your solar 9th house of big thoughts of the future. This is actually more of a prep month for you than an action month, because next month, everything heats up in a major way when almost every planet in the sky will visit your solar 10th house of career, recognition, and ambition. Which is why it's important to think about this "something new" topic now. Because the questions of the coming year will be something like--what is the relationship between my career and my personal life? Do I need new career energy to rejuvenate my love life, or new love energy to rejuvenate my career? Can I handle changes in both? Should I? What the heck do I really want anyway? What are my priorities?

If you'd like you can take advantage of some traditional 9th house activities to help sort these questions out. You could take a relaxing vacation to another country (the Bahamas?). You could take a class or sign up for a course in something to give you a new perspective on things. You could strike up relationships or beef up your contacts with people from other countries. Or you could take a very Piscean approach and just query your intuition and then listen intently for answers as to your future direction. However you want to handle it, this month plants the seeds for an explosion of energy next month, so get ready.

TOPIC OF THE MONTH:

SCORPIO

Scorpio is a fixed water sign. Planetary ruler: Pluto. Season: Autumn. Associated with the 8th house of trauma, transformation, and merging. Its symbol is the Scorpion.

Like the signs of Leo, Taurus, and Aquarius, Scorpio is a fixed sign. Unlike the other fixed signs, though, Scorpio is the stealth fixed sign. Leo is the sign of living large. Aquarius is the sign of thinking globally. Taurus is the sign of the visible pursuit of living comfortably. Scorpio, on the other hand, is about the largely invisible pursuit of power. Think of Hillary Clinton, living for decades in the shadow of her Leo husband. Behind the scenes, she was wielding and accumulating enormous power. But did you hear her chatting about it? I don't think so.

The most visible Scorpio in the world is probably Bill Gates, not so coincidentally one of the most powerful men in the world as well. When Bill Gates talks about Microsoft does he talk about how it's the most powerful software company in history with both the ability and the ruthless willingness to crush anything in sight? I don't think so. No, Mr. Gates talks about how useful and empowering the software his company produces is. He adopts a tone of studied paranoia and even seeming humility at times. Yet his corporate behavior indicates that his company has never been afraid to seek as much power as possible.

Bill Gates and Hillary Clinton, in fact, represent just about everything that people admire and don't like about the sign of Scorpio. Decisiveness, strength, determination, steely will, the ability to get things done and perform good in the world without sacrificing an iota of toughness. The inability and perhaps unwillingness to come across and warmly and jovially human. A strong work ethic. An ability to concentrate. An ability to piss other people off.

What the sign of Scorpio does in fact is transform emotional energy that other signs use to well, have emotions, into a sort of nuclear furnace that powers an engine directed toward a particular goal. Because this transformation is self-powered and internal, Scorpio is a very useful sign to have in one's chart. In fact, most people between the ages of 10 and 50 have at least one planet in Scorpio in their birth charts, either Pluto or Neptune or Uranus. Such Scorpio placements can act as your own personal nuclear furnace, transforming problems into goals, and giving you access to the power of long-held emotion. With Uranus in Scorpio you may use flashes of insight to access this power, with Neptune your intution may give you access, and with Pluto attributes like courage and surgical precision. The house wherein your planets in Scorpio lie can also give you a clue as to the source of your own emotional power, as well as to the area of life in which you can exercise this power most easily.

Scorpio is also a darn useful sign to encounter by transit. When planets are in Scorpio, as they are this month, people can dive into their own psyches and pull up transformative power they weren't aware they had available to them. Very few of us could stand bracing bouts of transformative power all year long, but every year, just as the nights start getting longer, a good dose of it does the trick.

HOW TO USE KEYWORDS: The essence of learning astrology is understanding how to mix, match, and blend the concepts associated with signs, planets, and houses to figure out what is or will be affecting you at a given point in time. This takes practice and practice is exactly what you're going to have a chance to get if you use the keywords each month.

Keywords can be used to plan and take action using the month's energies, to explain events or to make predictions. Scan for keywords that seem relevant to situations in your own life. You'll have 3 sets of keywords you can blend, one for the planet discussed, one for the sign it's in and one for the solar house it's transiting. Pick the keywords that interest you most and create your customized horoscope!

For example, if the Sun is in Aries in your solar first house, if you want to plan or take action you might pick the Sun keyword 'power', the Aries keyword 'initiating', and the 1st house keyword 'self-expression' to create an intention for yourself that you have the power to initiate actions to express yourself more fully in ways that you desire. You'll know what 'self-expression' means to you. It works best if you pick keywords that 'speak' to you or that coincide with elements of your life that already concern you. To receive astrological benefits, it's not necessary that you obligate yourself to do something huge - it's only necessary that you take one step in the right direction at the right time. Astrology concerns itself with when things are born, and if you start something at the right time, you're riding on the energy that's already available to you in the universe.

You can also use the keywords to try to figure out if something that is affecting you is 'in the stars'. For example, let's say you find yourself wondering why you're getting drawn into conflicts with people at your church. You scan the keywords and realize 'Aha! The fiery energy of Aries is currently being activated in my 12th house of faith-related matters!' If the energy is uncomfortable, you'll have a gauge as to how long it will be prominent (oh good, it should ease up next month!) or if it's a good energy you'll know which planet to thank!

You can also try your hand at predicting. If you check in at the beginning of the month and notice that your house of friendships is highlighted along with some active planetary or sign energies, you might predict for yourself that you will be engaging in a lot more fun and restorative activities with your friends in the coming month. This is basically what professional astrologers do and now you have a chance to try your own hand at it and compare your results with the pros. Have fun!

NOTE: There are a wide variety of potential keywords associated with each sign, planet, and house. I pick different ones each month to give you an idea of the range from the most common concepts to much more subtle ones. Over time, you'll gain an intuitive sense of what kinds of concepts are associated with each element and you'll even be able to generate your own keywords as you get a feel for each of the signs, planets, and houses. Each keyword also inherently contains its opposite as well. For example, if the keyword 'divorce' is displayed, it doesn't mean you'll get a divorce. But it does mean that if that is a concern for you and something you want to avoid you have an opportunity, while that energy is activated, to take proactive steps to deal with potential problems or head off an undesirable outcome. So you can turn 'divorce' into 'keeping a marriage together' or 'illness' into 'taking steps to get and stay healthy'.

Use your rising sign for better forecasts! Most published horoscopes are based at least in part on transits to solar houses. Solar houses are based on your sun sign and are easy to calculate. Your sun sign is your solar 1st house, the next sign in the zodiac is your solar 2nd house and so on. You can always determine what solar house a planet is in if you know the sign. Simply start with your own sign and count around the zodiac until you reach the sign you're interested in. For example, if you're a Gemini, the sign of your solar 3rd house is Leo. Pisces is the sign of your solar 10th house. Astrologers who publish horoscopes use sun signs and solar houses for several reasons: a) almost everyone knows their birthday; b) they're easy to calculate; and c) they actually do have some effect. However, if you get a personal reading from a professional astrologer, he or she will almost always use transits to your natal houses to give you a reading instead. Natal houses are based on your rising sign, which is determined by the exact time, place, and day you were born. Transits to your natal planets and houses have at least as much effect on your life as transits to your solar houses, sometimes quite a bit more. If you really want to know your chart, and get better horoscopes, you should find out your rising sign (also called Ascendant). If you know the exact time and place of your birth, you can do this for free at a wonderful website - www.astro.com. Click on the link near the top that says 'Free Horoscopes'. On that page, scroll down to the link that says 'Chart Drawing, Ascendant'. Follow the prompts to enter the information concerning your birth time, date, and place. You'll get a chart that shows your Ascendant (the sign next to the designation 'AC'). To the left will be a box listing your planetary placements. Next to the listing for 'AC' your rising sign will be listed along with the degree of your Ascendant within that sign. Make a note of that sign and be sure to check the horoscope and keywords for your Ascendant as well as your sun sign!

TRACK YOUR RESULTS! Next month when you come back here for your next horoscope, take 30 seconds to assess the results of the action you took last month as a result of your horoscope. Did it make you feel better? Did it make your life any better? Did it give you renewed energy or did you find your effort blocked, delayed, or ineffective? Judging your results allows you to assess how responsive you are to a particular planetary, sign, or house energy. For example, some people are very responsive to the astrological Sun just the way some people are very responsive to a sunny day. Other people work better with the energy of other planets. Only by taking a moment to gauge your results can you learn which planets work best for you in your life. You may have an 'afflicted' natal Sun that never does much for you, but a raring-to-go Mars that will help you in a pinch every time. Checking your results each month will give you an increasingly accurate guide as to how to use astrology to enhance your life.
